Hello, all.

Well, it was probably too good to last this time of year.  We have had a couple of solid release weeks with some nice variety overall.  It couldn’t be sustained this close to the Holiday movie season.  So, this week we get two releases, and only one of them doesn’t make me roll my eyes.

Oh, well.  C’est la vie.

Let’s take a look….

“Jackass 3D”

Synopsis: Johnny Knoxville and his buddies are up to their daredevil comic antics again. And this time they’re coming at ya’ in 3D.

MovieDruid’s Comments: I don’t even know where to begin.  One would think that given how long “Jackass” has been around either Darwin or Murphy would find a way to apply their Laws to these, well, jackasses.  The fact that this show continues to spawn itself into the cinemas is dumbfounding.  I may be dating myself terribly, but I actually remember a time when MTV was about music.  Shocking, I know.  Now they put out this sort of tripe.  And, of course, no movie begged for 3D treatment like this one.  I really need a 3D look at these morons doing what morons do.  I don’t even want to ponder what the fact that someone green-lighted this project says about the state of humanity.

“Red” – MovieDruid Pick of the Week

Synopsis: Frank, Joe, Marvin and Victoria used to be the CIA’s top agents, but the secrets they know just made them the Agency’s top targets. Now framed for assassination, they must use all of their collective cunning, experience and teamwork to stay one step ahead of their deadly pursuers and stay alive. To stop the operation, the team embarks on an impossible, cross-country mission to break into the top-secret CIA headquarters, where they will uncover one of the biggest conspiracies and cover-ups in government history.

MovieDruid’s Comments: Based on a Warren Ellis penned graphic novel printed under DC’s Wildstorm imprint, this one looks to be an interesting ride.  The choice of director was an interesting one in Robert Schwentke (“Flight Plan” & “The Time Traveler’s Wife”).  His work doesn’t seem to encompass this type of film, but he definitely has a certain panache to his filmmaking.  And, of course, he has an incredible cast in Bruce Willis (“Die Hard” & “The Fifth Element”), Morgan Freeman (“Lucky Number Slevin” & “The Shawshank Redemption”), John Malkovich (“Rounders” & “The Messenger”), Hellen Mirren (“State of Play” & “Excalibur”), and Mary Louise Parker (TV’s “Weeds” & “The Client”).  Everything seems to point to an action film that doesn’t take itself very seriously.  And, with Willis leading the cast, there’s no reason this one shoud fail to deliver.
